I've been a "missionary" since I was 14; traveling to Mexico and other states on mission trips with my youth group. Since then, I've been to 15 countries. Out of those 15 I've been to more than half of them, two or more times. This life as a missionary is all I've known.
[I put missionary in " " because as followers of Christ, we are all missionaries right where we are. I just happen to do this full-time as my career and I support raise 100% of my daily financial needs.]
Seeing as I am heading out on the mission field for the first time since 2019, I thought it was appropriate to start writing about this huge part of my life.
In a nutshell, this is what I do in the summer with my organization:
Oversee the food training for all of Training Camp in Wisconsin.
Logistics, paperwork, travel, itineraries, passports, vaccinations, etc. for my own team.
Take on the medical role for my personal team (reporting and logging daily injuries, distributing daily prescription medications, taking students to the doctor, calling parents, sending emails).
Teach at Training Camp and overseas.
Disciple the college age leaders and students on my team.
Lead some of the ministry in-country, connect with ministry partners.
Help prepare meals 3x's / day in-country.
Mediate conflict/issues on the team that come up.
Make sure all students are accounted for multiple times per day (this one is legitimate)!
Fill out paperwork every night before bed and have leader's meetings.
Sing a goodnight song every night (it's true. Every team does this).
Drink a lot of coffee.
Don't sleep ;)
The pace of the summer is 100mph every day for 6-8 weeks, and while I laugh and cry my way through the exhaustion and joyful moments, I have learned to say what I need, when I need it. Sometimes that comes in the form of "escaping" the team for a night and seeing Bon Jovi perform live in Poland. That was one of the most spontaneous things I've ever done.
This is what I am gearing up for currently.
I have had SO many people express their excitement and encouragement as I get ready to head out, and honestly that carries me throughout the entire summer. I think back to those conversations (being the contemplative that I am) and it truly helps me get through when the days of ministry are long, hard, and tough.
What I love about the mission work I get to do are the people I get to meet, the cultures I get to experience, and the body of believers I get to interact with all over the world.
As I get ready to head out in about 4 weeks, would you pray alongside me?
The country I am heading out to is TBD right now. I was originally on one team and had to be switched last minute. Also, with COVID there's a bit more added anxiety, nervousness, and unknowns. Prayer is appreciated for that as well.
Where ever I end up going, your prayers, support, Amazon gifts, and love genuinely carry me through.
I can't do what I do without YOU!
I'm not sure how often I will be able to write while I'm gone but I do update on Social Media as much as I can, so make sure you're following me there.
